College to begin direct lending

Beginning in the 2009-2010 academic year, the College will replace its participation in the Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP) with the Federal Direct Loan Program (FDLP), affecting all new and returning students borrowing Stafford and PLUS loans, a campus-wide e-mail announced earlier this semester.

Police aim to be ‘community oriented’

Several College students questioned Campus Police Chief John Collins on a range of topics at a Campus Police forum on March 5. The Student Government Association (SGA) hosted the forum, which was attended by about two dozen students, staff, Campus Police officers and other College community members.

Ewing Council approves new housing ordinances

Students living or moving off campus should be aware of three ordinances moving through the Ewing Township Council regarding noise, nuisance and rental properties.

The Council approved the ordinances at its Feb. 10 meeting and will hold a public hearing on the ordinances at its next meeting on Feb.

Students, landlords work to develop ‘lasting partnerships’

Students, Ewing residents and landlords aired their grievances regarding off-campus student living and brainstormed ways to better communicate during the College’s sixth annual Good Neighbor forum held Feb. 4 in the Brower Student Center. The forum, titled “Opening the Door for Lasting Partnerships,” was hosted by Township and College Together (TACT) and co-sponsored by the Student Government Association (SGA).

Rising seniors no longer permitted to squat

Rising seniors living on campus shouldn’t get too comfortable in their current residences. Students will not be permitted to squat during the upcoming housing lottery for the 2009-2010 academic year due to a shift in housing options available to rising sophomores and upperclassmen, according to Megan Furniss, manager of Housing Assignments.

Search for Business dean begins

The College hired a professional search consulting firm to aid a search committee this semester in finding and assessing candidates for a new dean of the School of Business, Provost and Executive Vice President Carol Bresnahan said in an e-mail.

Schools will not be restructured

College Provost and Executive Vice President Carol Bresnahan and College President R. Barbara Gitenstein decided the schools of the Arts and Communication and Culture and Society will not be restructured after receiving the final report from the ad hoc Commitee on the Structure of the Schools of Arts and Communication and Culture and Society, a campus-wide e-mail announced last Wednesday.

Budget affects PEC quality

When prospective students visit the College on campus tours, they are often impressed by the College’s green lawns, beautiful New Library, updated academic buildings and maybe even the ever-present construction that promises new facilities to come.

Then they visit the Physical Enhancement Center (PEC), and their faces speak for themselves, according to Jason Cantor, a junior business administration major who works at the PEC.

New health policy adopted in Virginia Tech aftermath

A new policy in effect at the College will allow administrators to withdraw a student for health or safety reasons when all other options have been exhausted.

The College Board of Trustees passed a resolution approving the Involuntary Health or Safety Withdrawal Policy at its July 8 meeting.

Six undocumented immigrants can pay in-state tuition rate

Incoming undocumented immigrant students at the College who graduated from New Jersey high schools are no longer eligible for in-state tuition rates, according to the Attorney General’s office.

However, a Board of Trustees tuition waiver will allow the six undocumented immigrants currently enrolled at the College to continue paying the in-state tuition rate.

A campus-wide security audit that began last semester by campus security consulting firm Margolis, Healy & Associates, LLC is near completion and will be finalized in a few weeks, according to Matthew Golden, executive director of Public Relations and Communications.

Tuition increases hit College after budget cuts

Tuition increased 8 percent to $8,072 this year for full-time in-state students, the College’s Board of Trustees announced at its meeting on July 8.

Tuition for out-of-state students rose 10 percent to $16,825.

The increases are steeper than last year, when tuition rose 6 percent for in-state students and 8 percent for out-of-state students.
