The year had many anthems, some of which you will find on your radio dial, and some that only popped up on college radio and the iPods of music insiders. Here are my top 10 anthems of the year:

1. Estelle, “American Boy” – Call it a sneaking suspicion, call it the magic touch of Kanye West, but I believe this track just might be Estelle’s ticket to the land of one-hit wonderdom.

In its never-ending quest to promote the latest up-and-coming music to the college demographic, mtvU held its fourth annual Woodie Awards on Nov. 12 at New York City’s Roseland Ballroom. As someone who’s been pretty active in the college music field for the past three years, I was able to look past the teleprompted Woodie jokes and industry self-congratulation to realize a struggle for supremacy.

Voting rights are crucial to all Americans, Doug Forrester argued, but especially to the disabled. “If you didn’t vote, don’t complain,” Forrester said, quoting the popular bumper sticker.

A former Republican candidate for New Jersey governor, Forrester now teaches a course on government at the College.
