Anyone watch the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows?I decided to re-read the book before going to this movie and I must point out, that they stayed really near to the story-line of the book, even so, I feel like they edited out a few key factors as well as elements and some details had been altered for movie settings that we wish they would not have. Mostly silly details, however ones which were really appropriate and made things fall together a little better.

The station has something to offer for everyone, not just Communications majors. I am a Physics major and a licensed DJ at WTSR. Being a part of the radio station teaches you more than just how to run a radio program; I've learned how to improve my skills in time management, how to work as part of a team, public speaking skills, and much more. Compared to other college radio stations (which I have seen personally), WTSR is superior in every way -- our programming is well-rounded, our DJ's are far more experienced and skilled, and we have a bigger listenership than most other colleges.

If WTSR is shut down by the college, it will be one of the biggest mistakes they could possibly make. So many students are given the opportunity to participate in a very professional radio station, which is something many students never experience at other schools.

To 'eric':
While music tastes are very subjective, it is unfair to call the station 'awful.' Providing the listening community with underground music is the point of college radio - we are not trying to be a mainstream station. There are enough of those already. WTSR is a non-commercial EDUCATIONAL station, and I stress 'educational.' It has provided me with invaluable experience and helped guide me in choosing a career path for after college, just as it has with countless other students.

I am the Operations Manager at WTSR, and although we do not sell advertisements, we do sell underwriting spots. We are not permitted to sell advertisements because we are a non commercial, educational station, and advertisements are considered advertisements. The difference between underwriting and advertising is that you cannot mention prices or calls to fame in advertisement. We do make some money off of these underwriting spots, but not nearly enough to completely sustain ourselves independently.

In regards to Eric, who says the radio station should be shut down because it is "awful," it's important for you to note that's your individual opinion about the station, and not everyone feels that way, especially people who like to continuously find new music. WTSR is a very important learning tool for communications majors, and without the program, Radio/TV/Film majors wouldn't have a radio outlet on campus to gain experience. The Board of Directors has also worked very hard in the past few years to enhance the quality of our programming. I encourage you to view our weekly schedule online, as even though you think the radio station is "awful," I doubt that you would hate every single show broadcast on our station, since we have shows encompassing all genres of music.
