Professor of communication studies Paul D’Angelo presented “Between Iraq and a Hard Place: Exploring Press Independence in Coverage of the Abu Ghraib Prison Scandal” on Oct. 20.

The presentation was based on the findings of his content analysis research project, which found the standards of investigative journalism were not up to par in their blending of the dominant governmental perspective and the counter-perspective associated with press independence in the Abu Ghraib prison scandal.

“This project is trying to gage press coverage about this story,” D’Angelo said. “The press fell down on the job even though there are many counter arguments.”
