In their third game of the season, The College defeated Eastern University 2-1 at home.

The first half began with Eastern showing a strong offensive attack.  However, 21 minutes into the game, freshman forward Caitlyn Jenkins scored a goal to give the Lions the lead. Senior forward/midfielder Gabby Cafone scored another goal in the final two minutes of the half to put the Lions up by two.

Six minutes into the second half, sophomore forward Yvonne Herbster scored Eastern’s lone goal.  The pressure was on once again as Eastern’s forwards dominated the field.

“Eastern’s attack tightened our defense,” Sophomore goalkeeper Shannon Syciarz said.  “This was a big game and I was forced to go all out. This regional game means a lot for us in the NCAA rankings. It was a big win.”

Syciarz held down the defense with a career high 13 saves.

Eastern may have conquered the field, yet the Lions still came out on top. The Lions will finish off their homestand on Sept. 19 against Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham.
